Due to the ongoing global challenges caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19), the World Curling Federation has taken the decision to cancel the World Curling Congress scheduled to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia from 4–6 September 2020.

The World Curling Congress is for representatives from the World Curling Federation’s 64 Member Associations and includes the Federation’s Annual General Assembly which is traditionally held on the final day of the Congress. This will now take place virtually on Sunday 6 September 2020.

World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness said: “Cancelling the 2020 edition of the World Curling Congress was a difficult decision, however the health and safety of our staff and representatives was our overriding concern.

“We do not yet know the impact this pandemic will have on international travel in September and this left us with no choice but to cancel our Congress and look to alternative virtual methods of holding our Annual General Assembly.

“I am happy to confirm that following agreement with the Russian Curling Federation, the beautiful city of Saint Petersburg will host our 10th World Curling Congress in September 2021. I would like to thank both the Russian Curling Federation and the City of Saint Petersburg for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging time.”

The 2020 General Assembly will feature elections for the board positions: Vice-President (Pacific-Asia) and Director — both for four-year terms and will also include voting by the World Curling Federation’s 64 Member Associations on competition and rule changes for the 2020-2021 season. These will be conducted using an electronic remote voting system.

The open meetings that proceed the General Assembly will be replaced with a series of webinars over the summer period.
