The Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2019 B-Division is underway at The Olympia Rink, B-Hall in Helsingborg, Sweden this week.
At the conclusion of the women’s round-robin stage on Thursday (21 November), Turkey, Italy, Hungary and England have all qualified for the play-offs with promotion to the A-Division and a place in the World Qualification Event 2020 in Lohja, Finland from 13-18 January 2020.
On Friday (22 November) morning at 09:00 Central European Time (CET), Turkey will face England, in the 1v4 game. At the same time Italy will face Hungary in the 3v4 game.
At the bottom of the table, Poland and Lithuania have been relegated to the European C-Division.
The men’s championship drew to a close on Thursday evening with the last play-off place being secured by Belarus, after a three-way tie with France and Latvia in which they had the best Draw Shot Challenge Score.
Prior to the evening’s session, Czech Republic, Finland and Spain had claimed the three play-off places available to teams in Group-A. While, the initial two Group-B places had been secured by Poland and Turkey.
The men’s play-offs consist of a qualification round, where Finland will face Belarus and Turkey will play Spain. The winners of these games will progress to the semi-final stage to face the group winners, Czech Republic and Poland.
Friday morning will also see the first round of the men’s relegation play-offs. Hungary will face Lithuania, with the winner retaining their B-Division status and the loser moving onto a second relegation round.
At the same time, Slovakia will face Israel with the loser being relegated to the European C-Division and the winner progressing to the relegation play-offs second round. The winner of this second-round game will remain in the B-Division, while the loser drops into the C-Division.
