WWCC 2012 Day 5 - Player Reaction

Draw 14

Korea

After their win against Germany, Korea Skip, Ji-Sun Kim, said:

“Tonight, I was a little tired but I shot very good to help us win this game. Tomorrow, I want at least one win, but one loss will do I think.

“I want to reach the play-offs so much, I really really want it. I will be very happy if we make it, but I am happy right now.

“I am excited [for tomorrow’s games] but I’m very nervous. Today against Canada I was also very nervous, but I am having great fun and enjoying it a lot.”

Germany

Following their loss to Canada, Germany, Skip Melanie Robillard, said:

“It was a very defensive game, that’s exactly the way we wanted to play it. We were a team that kind of just got tossed together so we can’t play offensively, we tried it some games and it didn’t work so we had to play defensively.

“We had a couple of stupid misses, so they took advantage of them, but we were close and we tried to keep our head in the game.

“Now we’re out of the playoffs. We had to win four games in a row which was a bit hard, and we had some good teams to play, but we will try and win some of our [remaining] games.”

Denmark

After their win against Italy, Denmark Skip, Lene Nielsen, said:

“It was a difficult game. We had a couple of picks on the way, she played a good game and we didn’t really get ours going so I’m just happy we won.

“We need to win again tomorrow. We have Sweden in the afternoon game, it’s going to be tough but we will do our best. Then we have the USA at the end, so I hope to win two games tomorrow. That’s what we have to do to try and stay in this competition.”

Russia

After their win against Czech Republic, Russia Skip, Anna Sidorova, said:

“I’m pretty happy about this game but I cannot feel ok after my morning game, it was really tough for me.

“I’m not sure if we are still in with a chance of the play-offs. It will be tough and I’m not sure if it [winning two games] can be enough to be in the tie-breakers.

“I’m not sure why we have been so inconsistent, it’s difficult to say. I’d like it If we played good in every game and I made all my shots. I try my hardest but maybe I’m too young? Maybe I don’t have enough experience? But I’m trying to do my best and I’m learning. I think we have a lot of time ahead of us and we will come good.”

Draw 13

Denmark

After defeating Switzerland, Denmark Skip, Lene Nielsen, said:

“It was a must win game so a very, very big win for our team. We have had some pretty bad losses when we have been ahead in the ninth, and then just blew it all in the end. So, for our confidence this is a really good win.

“It was our game plan to start out slow then put a lot of pressure on the middle and try and finish things off.”

Draw 12

Switzerland

After defeating Italy, Swiss Skip, Mirjam Ott, said:

“Italy played quite well, it was a close game, we really had to perform good, play some good curling. That’s another win for us which is also good, they had some mistakes in the end of the game but otherwise it was a close game. We were in control but never could score a high house and get an early lead. They were really close and we couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.

“There’s still three games to go so you cannot say how it will turn out. Surprising for sure is Korea, we didn’t expect them to be up there.“

China

After their loss to Sweden, China Skip, Bingyu Wang, said:

“Today I think we lose one end, we gave away the five points and it’s so difficult to come back from that - they are so strong. We just really lost one end.

“Right now I don’t think we will make the play-offs. We just want to play. We have three games left and I hope we play better and win them.

“I think the main problem has been that we have changed to some new players. For many of them this is their first world championship. This team is a new team so we have to try and learn so many things from the games and they have to know what they have to do. From the games they need to gain confidence. I think they have learned a lot, I hope so, but perhaps it’s not so good an experience for them as we lost so many games.

“Losing a game doesn’t feel so good but we hope we can learn many things from these games and we hope we can play better next year.”

Korea

After losing to Canada, Korea Skip, Ji-Sun Kim, said:

“I enjoyed that game very much, but we were just unlucky. We played well, but Team Canada is very good. It’s ok though, we are still near the top of the standings. We should make the playoffs - I think if we win tonight we should be ok.

“I think if we meet Team Canada again we can beat them. I think they are a good team but Jennifer Jones [team] is better.”
