Flims, Switzerland – 6 March 2010: Canada, Sweden and Switzerland are tied at the top of the standings with two wins and no losses after the first day of play in the junior women’s event at the World Junior Curling Championships in Flims Switzerland.
Canada built a strong lead against the Chinese in the morning. In the sixth end, with the score at 4-2, Canada made 6 and went on to win 12-3. In the game against the United States in the evening, Canadian Skip Rachel Homan led her team to an 8-5 victory with two steals of two.
Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg beat the USA earlier in the day 10-4 and went on to win against the Czech Republic in the evening 6-5. Anna Kubeskova’s Czech team had earlier beaten Scotland 9-8
Switzerland, cheered on by a home crowd, overcame Germany in the morning 8-7 and dominated Scotland in the evening to win 9-3.
Germany recovered winning form in the evening to beat France 10-6. The Russian’s, who beat France in the earlier draw 8-3, found themselves beaten by China at night. Skip Anna Sidorova managed to tie the game up 5-5 in the 7th end, but the Chinese took a further point in the 8th and stole one point in the 10th to win 7-5.
