Day four of the World Mixed Curling Championship 2017 resumed this morning (Monday 9 October) with sessions 11 and 12 of round-robin play.

The day’s opening session saw wins for Canada, Sweden, Germany, Korea and China, all of whom remain undefeated so far in the competition.

Canada defeated England 6-5. With the score tied at 5-5 going into the last end, England with the hammer had an opportunity to secure the win, however, their skip Andrew Woolston was a touch heavy with his draw on his final stone, giving up a steal of one point and giving Canada the victory.

Sweden defeated Brazil 5-1; Germany claimed a 6-3 win over Netherlands; Korea edged out Scotland 6-5 with a single point steal in the eighth end; China needed an extra end to defeat Latvia 6-5, stealing a single point in the extra end for the win and Israel defeated Slovakia 6-3.

In the second session of the day Estonia secured their second win in a row with an 8-3 victory over Japan, while Poland defeated Australia 4-3 in a tense game.

Elsewhere in the session, Norway defeated Austria 7-5 to keep pace with group leaders Israel. With the game tied at 5-5 going into the final end, Norway stole two points in the final end when Austria skip Andreas Unterberger was heavy with his final stone.

In the session’s final game Israel continued their undefeated run with a 6-3 victory over Slovakia to remain clear leaders at the top of Group D.

They said it

Trevor Bonot; Canada skip (after 6-5 win over England): "It was definitely ugly for us out there again. We haven’t hit our stride quite yet, but we’ve made the right shots at the right time. It was really important to get that win this morning, you don’t want to get behind at all, it just makes the rest of the games tougher and more stressful. We all agree there’s lots of room for improvement and we’re nowhere near where we want to be, so we’ve got some work to do."

Ingvild Skaga; Norway skip (after 7-5 win over Austria): "It wasn’t our best game today, but thankfully we managed to get the win in the end. We need to play a lot better in the next game. Our next game against Israel is going to be an interesting and exciting game."

Andres Jakobson; Estonia skip (after 8-3 win over Japan): "Let’s hope we can keep our momentum after this win. We have another game today against Hungary and they are also very strong so let’s hope we can win to keep the momentum going. Tomorrow we’ll have a break, go to the mountains, relax a little so we can come back the following morning fresh and rested for the game [against Russia]."
