Norway beat their Scandinavian opponents, 9-6, in a game that came right down to the final stone.

Going into the last end, the Norwegians were trailing by a point. But, a perfectly delivered raise takeout from skip, Steffen Walstad, saw them secure four points in the eighth end.

Walstad said: “My team played really well through the whole game. I missed a shot early on that gave away three points, but my team mates put in the right shots and it worked out fine. I’ve played [Finnish skip, Tomi] Rantamaki lots of times before so I knew this was going to be a tough game.”

During this session, there were also first wins for Israel and Australia. Israel defeated Wales, 10-5, while Australia beat Spain 9-6.

Australian skip, Ian Pallangio, said: “It was nice to get the first win on the board. Some big points were scored back and forth and Sergio [Vez] kept lots of rocks in play and put lots of pressure on us.”

There were also wins in session 11 for Denmark, Canada and Slovakia. Denmark beat France 5-2, Canada won 7-4 against Latvia and Slovakia defeated Italy 8-3 in seven ends.
