LGT to become a main sponsor of the World Men’s Curling Championship 2016

LGT, the international private banking and asset management group, is to become a main sponsor of the World Men’s Curling Championship 2016 (WMCC) in Basel. The agreement was signed by Infront Sports & Media, exclusive media and marketing partner of the World Curling Federation (WCF).

Following the successful World Championship in 2012, the world’s curling elite will meet once again at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel from 2 to 10 April 2016. This marks LGT’s second sponsorship engagement with the WMCC, having been involved as a main sponsor, also in Basel four years ago.

Kate Caithness, President of the World Curling Federation, said: “Infront’s ongoing drive to enhance the strength of our events continues to deliver strong marketing results – with LGT the second main sponsor to come on board in recent weeks for the World Men's Curling Championship 2016. We are pleased to welcome LGT onto the ice and on behalf of the World Curling Federation we look forward to working together with LGT to deliver a first class event.”

Curling is one of the oldest team sports in the world. Success in curling requires not only team spirit, but determination, precision and concentration are fundamental elements of the sport as well. “Those are values that LGT also strongly identifies with, values which have always characterised our company. These factors are also crucial for long-term success in private banking,” said Heinrich Henckel, CEO of LGT Bank Switzerland.

LGT Bank Switzerland, which has its head-quarters in Basel, established its presence over ten years ago and is therefore closely linked to the city. “That is why we are very pleased to be sponsoring a World Championship in our home town, so to speak,” continued Henckel.

A further reason for LGT’s renewed commitment to the World Curling Championship is the high level of quality, professionalism and personal engagement of the people responsible for this event. “We also attach great importance to these characteristics in the management of our client assets. Moreover, this is a great opportunity for our clients and guests to witness this precision sport first-hand,” concluded Henckel.

Bruno Marty, Executive Director Winter Sports at Infront, said: “Switzerland is a key market for curling and it is expected that the event will generate a lot of attention in the country and beyond via international TV distribution. With LGT's headquarters being in Basel, the group will benefit not only from an increase in its international awareness, but also be able to use the platform to maintain and expand local customer contacts.”
