The 16 quarter-finalists (eight women and eight men) have been decided at the World Junior-B Curling Championships 2017 in Oestersund, Sweden, and will shortly compete for places in Tuesday's (10 January) semi-finals and gold medal games.
China, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Norway, Scotland, Slovakia and Turkey are the women’s teams that have reached the last eight. In the men’s championship it is China, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey.
The men’s semi-finals are on Monday evening at 16:00 – Latvia v China, Turkey v Denmark, Italy v Slovenia (live on World Curling TV) and Poland v Germany.
These are followed by the women’s semi-finals at 20:00 – Scotland v Norway, Turkey v Slovakia, China v Germany and Czech Republic v Japan.
China are the only member association who are unbeaten in both the women’s and men’s events, while they are joined by Scotland and Turkey on the women’s side and Germany on the men’s side – all with a 100% record so far.
China women last beat Australia in the round-robin 10-1. Similarly, Scotland defeated Czech Republic 7-1 in their last round-robin game. For Turkey, they reached this stage having beaten Poland 8-6 in a qualification game on Monday morning.
China men beat Netherlands 8-4 in their last round-robin game, while Germany beat Poland 5-4 in an extra end – Germany and Poland meet again in the semi-final. Poland beat Czech Republic 8-7, in an extra end in a qualification game, to reach the last eight.
The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday 10 January at 09:00 and the medal games will be staged at 14.00 the same day (all times are Central European Time).
