The women and men B-Division played their finals on Saturday evening at the Le Gruyère AOP European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Norway took the women’s title with a 7-6 victory over Estonia. Norway opened the scoring with a single point in the first end, followed by a steal of one point in the second end. Estonia responded quickly, not allowing Norway to build an advantage. The game was level after nine ends and in the tenth end, the Norwegian team stole a vital point for the win and the B-Division gold medals.

“We were just trying to go out there and have fun,” Norwegian vice-skip Kristin Skaslien said after the match. “We didn’t really play that well and the Estonians did, so we had a real struggle out there. But we managed to hang in there and unfortunately for the Estonian skip, she didn’t do her last stone. It was a tight game that could have gone both ways.”

A 6-5 win over Lithuania handed the Turkish women the bronze medal. Turkey took two points in the first end and carried their advantage through.

On the men’s side, Denmark claimed the gold medal coming out 10-4 winners over England. Denmark took the lead in the second end and didn’t look back from there. Four points in the seventh end, then a point in ninth end sealed the win early with England conceding afterwards.

“We had a tough start to the week, so bringing it home feels really good,” Denmark’s Mads Noergaard said after the match. “England didn’t play their best game, but they seemed happy with their result and we’re happy with ours. When we were up 4-1 up after three ends, we felt confident in ourselves that we would make the shots. We had a strong team connection, so we picked each other up and made sure we made the shots when we needed to.”

Czech Republic beat Latvia, 13-6, to take the bronze medal. The Czech team started the game with a six-points score in the first end and never let go of their advantage.

In the men’s relegation game, Turkey secured their place in the B-Division with a 7-5 win over France. The game was level after end nine and a single point score in the final end handed Turkey the victory.

France meanwhile are relegated to next season’s C-Division.
