Membership of Polish Curling Association suspended

The Polish Curling Association has been suspended as a Member Association of the World Curling Federation, as of Friday 31 January 2020.

The World Curling Federation Board considers the Polish Curling Association to be in breach of the Federation’s Constitution, specifically section 6.6.2.3. – “bringing the sport into disrepute.”

Since 2017, the World Curling Federation has made numerous requests to the Polish Curling Association to resolve issues relating to its governance structures and disputes with the Ministry of Sport in Poland. However, failure to take reasonable steps to resolve these concerns has resulted in this action.

In light of this decision, no curling team representing Poland can enter any future World Curling Federation events and no official representatives can attend meetings organised by the Federation until the suspension is lifted.

The Polish men’s team, already entered into the World Senior Curling Championships 2020 – in Kelowna, Canada, in April – and the Polish women’s team entered into the European Curling Championships C-Division 2020 – in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in May – will still be allowed to compete.

If necessary, further action will be considered at the World Curling Federation’s Annual General Assembly, to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia on Sunday 6 September 2020.
